Making our World a Better Place

Welcome to Foundation!

We returned from half term to learn about the senses. We then applied this new knowledge to learning about fireworks. We wrote words and then worked together to make class poems. Here is one of them:

Firework Poem

As fast as a rocket and a plane, as loud as a helicopter.

They make loads of smoke.

Yellow, pink, blue, red, golden, silver, green, pretty and colourful rockets.

Boom, bang! Get out your earmuffs.

We have now blasted off into space…

Our Foundation teachers are:

Acorn – Mrs Hardiman (Monday to Thursday), Mrs Adcock (Thursday pm and Friday)
Oak – Miss Lain
Our Teaching Assistants are: Mrs Stuttard, Mrs Gray and Mrs Jones

Daily – Children are able to access outside learning every day so it is important that they always come to school with a hooded coat and have a pair of named wellies in school. They also need to bring a named sunhat when the weather is good. Parents should apply sun cream to their child before school when necessary. Children can reapply it themselves at school if their parents wish.

Thursday – PE

Friday – Celebration Assembly

A Foundation newsletter is sent out via School Comms at the end of each week.

Reading: Please read with your child as often as possible and ideally at least three times a week. Their book will be changed when they can read it confidently and it has been read at home.

Big talk: Children are given a topic to discuss at home once a week and are expected to come to school with a sentence to share.

Maths: Practical maths activities are suggested to do at home that fit in with the current teaching, for example, hunting for numbers.

Please follow this link to access parent information about end of year non-negotiables for English and Mathematics. Any support that you can give to your child to achieve these targets will be extremely valuable.

Autumn 2

Children will be inspired by space, make a rocket and think about what they would take on a trip to the moon. They will investigate different planets and use their imagination to draw and write about aliens.

Children will also learn about Bonfire Night and seasonal festivals and customs.

If you have any queries about our work in Foundation, do not hesitate to ask.
