Menston Primary School

Making our World a Better Place

Welcome to Foundation at Menston Primary.

Our Foundation teachers are:

Acorn – Mrs Hardiman (Monday to Thursday), Mrs Adcock (Thursday pm and Friday)
Oak – Miss Lain
Our Teaching Assistants are: Mrs Stuttard, Mrs Gray and Mrs Jones

Daily – Children are able to access outside learning every day so it is important that they always come to school with a hooded coat and have a pair of named wellies in school. During cold weather children will also need a named hat and gloves.

Thursday – PE

Friday – Assembly

A Foundation newsletter is sent out via School Comms at the end of each week.

Reading: Please read with your child as often as possible and ideally at least three times a week. Their book will be changed when they can read it confidently and it has been read at home.

Big talk: Children are given a topic to discuss at home once a week and are expected to come to school with a sentence to share.

Maths: Practical maths activities are suggested to do at home that fit in with the current teaching, for example, hunting for numbers.

Please follow this link to access parent information about end of year non-negotiables for English and Mathematics. Any support that you can give to your child to achieve these targets will be extremely valuable.

Spring Two Half Termly Newsletter

Spring 2 2018

This term we are thinking about different jobs people do both inside and outside school. We will be looking at non-fiction books and asking lots of questions. We will also be learning about Chinese New Year, Easter and spring!

The snow has been lots of fun to explore in!

Everyone in Foundation has enjoyed World Book Day activities. We loved coming to school dressed as our favourite characters, sharing books and reading stories.

After reading Oliver’s Vegetables we set about doing our own gardening. We found dozens of worms in the big planter and all took part in planting seeds.

We have been linking lots of different areas of learning through work on Chinese New Year. We have done dragon dances, made drums, been racing, ordering numbers and painting.
