Menston Primary School

Making our World a Better Place

Welcome to Foundation at Menston Primary.

Our Foundation teachers are:

Acorn – Mrs Hardiman (Monday to Thursday), Mrs Adcock (Thursday am and Friday)
Oak – Miss Lain
Our Teaching Assistants are: Mrs Stuttard, Mrs Gray and Mrs Young

Daily – Children need to bring a named water bottle into school every day. Children are able to access outside learning every day so it is important that they always come to school with a hooded coat and have a pair of named wellies in school. During the summer children should also have a named sunhat.

Friday – PE and assembly

A Foundation newsletter is sent out via School Comms at the end of each week.

Reading: Once your child has been sent home some reading material please read with your child as often as possible and ideally at least three times a week. Their book will be changed when they can read it confidently and it has been read at home.

Big talk: Children are given a topic to discuss at home once a week and are expected to come to school with a sentence to share.

Maths: Practical maths activities are suggested to do at home that fit in with the current teaching, for example, hunting for numbers.

Please follow this link to access parent information about end of year non-negotiables for English and Mathematics. Any support that you can give to your child to achieve these targets will be extremely valuable.

Our Learning this Term

For information about our learning over the year please see our EYFS Long Term Plan.

Autumn 1 2018

This term we will be getting to know each other and learning about school. We will think about what makes us special, how our bodies work and how to keep healthy. We will also talk about feelings and how others might have different feelings to us.

So far this term we have enjoyed learning about similarity and difference through the Elmer stories and Carrot and Pea, an Unlikely Friendship. We have made repeating patterns in every area of our rooms, inspired by Elmer’s friend, Wilbur.

Minibeasting was a popular activity and we are thinking about making our very own minibeast area outside.
