Making our World a Better Place

Welcome to Year 6

We are very pleased to be teaching Year 6 and are enjoying an exciting and hard-working year. Whilst it is important that all children have a really memorable time in Year 6, expectations of their learning and behaviour are high. We love them to take risks in their learning, after all nothing ventured, nothing gained! Throughout the year, our children will grow and mature; they will take on extra responsibilities, become more independent and will be ready to take the next huge step to high school. On this page you will find information about the staff within our year group, key information about our week and a few highlights from our learning.

This year we are fortunate to receive support from Mrs Pedley, Mrs Palmer and Mrs Help who work in partnership to support your child’s learning. If you have any questions regarding your child’s learning, progress or overall achievement, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment or write a note in your child’s planner.

Our action-packed topic this term is Spies and Gadgets, with lots of excitement still to come!

This half term, will continue to be inspired by the book ‘Stormbreaker’ by Anthony Horowitz. We shall be writing persuading young spies to select the gadgets we are designing. Towards the end of the book, we shall also be writing contrasting diary entries and formal letters from the perspective of Alex Rider.

An effective spy must possess a wide range of skills. Having learned about light, we are now moving on to electricity. We shall be learning how to draw circuit diagrams and applying this to various circuits of our own, exploring how components function differently in circuits. In Geography, we shall continue to develop our map skills by looking at symbols and keys on Ordnance Survey Maps.

We shall be learning about converting units of measurement before learning about area, perimeter and volume. We shall also be learning to use ratios and looking at the properties of shapes.
