Making our World a Better Place

Welcome to Year 6

We are very pleased to be teaching Year 6 and are enjoying an exciting and hard-working year. Whilst it is important that all children have a really memorable time in Year 6, expectations of their learning and behaviour are high. We love them to take risks in their learning, after all nothing ventured, nothing gained! Throughout the year, our children will grow and mature; they will take on extra responsibilities, become more independent and will be ready to take the next huge step to high school. On this page you will find information about the staff within our year group, key information about our week and a few highlights from our learning.

This year we are fortunate to receive support from Mrs Pedley, Mrs Palmer and Mrs Help who work in partnership to support your child’s learning. If you have any questions regarding your child’s learning, progress or overall achievement, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment or write a note in your child’s planner.

We will sometimes vary the homework set, especially as the year progresses so that your child can get used to homework being set on different days. However, typical homework is shown below:

Maths homework (set and due for completion on the following Friday)

Spelling homework set (due on Friday)

Big Talk homework set (usually due for Monday)

Please follow this link to access parent information about end of year non-negotiables for English and Mathematics. Any support that you can give to your child to achieve these targets will be extremely valuable.

Our Learning this Term

It’s our final half term in Year 6, and what a year it has been! The children have covered everything they need to learn in Maths and English but they will be applying our skills in various projects to make sure they are ready for secondary school.

Of course, our learning doesn’t stop here! This half term, we continue with our topic of Changes. This encompasses a wide range of subjects including: The Early Islamic Civilisation, evolution and inheritance, the human body, working with budget constraints, and much more! We will also be working on our end of year leavers’ production.

As part of the Changes topic, we feel it is important that our children are fully prepared for their next big step. They will be taking on further responsibilities and we encourage you to support them with further developing their independence.

Our residential to Windermere was an incredible experience which we are sure our children will remember forever.
