Extra-Curricular Provision

At Menston Primary School we firmly believe that our extra-curricular provision contributes to our children’s personal development and wellbeing. We offer a range of extra-curricular opportunities including sports, creative & musical opportunities and Coding Club.

• Cross Country

  We are part of the Wharfedale Primary Schools Cross Country League. Race events take place on Saturdays throughout the year and are coordinated by Mrs Blaby, our PE Subject Leader.

• Wharfe Valley Primary Sports

  We take part in a range of competitive inter-school sports competitions, along with other schools in the Wharfe Valley. KS2 pupils from different year groups attend coaching sessions and compete in these friendly events each half term.

• Menston Band

  Our school band meets every Tuesday from 3.15pm – 4pm in the KS2 hall. Band is open to all KS2 pupils, whatever their musical starting points. This club is led by Mr Jamie Smith – principal cornet player in the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

  Pupils play a variety of instruments in our band from brass to string to percussion. Our band is really inclusive and everyone in KS2 is welcome to come and have a go!

• Menston Choir

  Our choir runs every Thursday after school from 3:15 – 3:45 pm. It is open to all year 4, 5 and 6 pupils. Our choir is led by Mr Adam Gouldin from Bradford Music & Arts service.

  Last year, our choir were awarded the Craigland’s Trophy when they entered the Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts.

• Peripatetic Music Lessons

  Bradford Music Service offer a range of music lessons which take place within the school day including individual and group piano, keyboard, brass, woodwind, upper strings, and guitar.

• French Club

  Mrs Pringle Van Berkel has extensive experience teaching Modern Foreign Languages. She works with the children on a Monday evening, after school, to develop their French speaking skills.

   

   

   

• Coding Club

  Menston Primary School is a registered member of Code Club, a nationwide network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs for children aged 9-11. Our Coding Club runs on Tuesdays after school from 3:15 to 4:15 pm and is open to all children in Y5 & Y6.

  Children work their way through Code Club Projects to develop their coding skills using Scratch, Python, HTML and Micro: Bit.

• Gardening Club

  Held in the Summer term and lead by Mrs Meakin, our gardening club gives our children an opportunity to express their green thumbs!

• Art Club

  Offered to Reception and KS1 children who enjoy expressing their creative talents!

• Multi-Sports

  Mr Langan holds his after-school sessions with each year group throughout the school year, allowing them to try a variety of sporting activities.
